Interestingly enough, I was looking at Adventure Medical's 1.0 in EMS. Good to know other people are using that one, too- thanks!

Red Cross of NENY has a 3 hour Adult First Aid CPR AED class on Saturday, Feb 11, from 9am to 12pm. $90.

Adventure Medical sells good starters. Come in red or blue zipper packs though. I supplemented their First Aid Kit 1.0 with scissors, hemostatic pad (because of how people drive), and a few other useful odds and ends they left out. All additions fit inside the pack. Cold packs take up too much space. I keep a day pack stocked with various stuff (which incl. the FAK) in each car (mostly because of how people drive ;)

FYI there are a couple bike rack options at the West end of the current section of Rail Trail. There are public racks in Firefighter's Park facing bridge street (the park can be accessed by crossing the little footbridge near the firehouse's pavilion there), and Tollgate has racks as well if you go for their food or ice cream. CDTA's bike rack map shows the public rack options in the region, including the the parks at either end of the rail trail, and several within 1/4 mile of the trail. http://www.cdta.org/schedules_map_bike_rack.php

Also, we hope to officially lift the current prohibition against bicycles on the trail as soon as possible; it's based on trail guidelines for minimum width from "hazards" (which in this case are a couple of steep slopes). Railings will be required in these spots in order to meet these guidelines so we will be raising funds for their purchase. Donations are welcome at http://www.mohawkhudson.org/getinv.htm. Be sure to specify if you want to go towards the Rail Trail.
