Hiking Hadley Mountain

This had been on my “to do” list since Spring. I had a weekend alone, so I thought I’d tackle it. Saturday was rainy, so I aimed for Sunday.

I got up, ate breakfast, packed, and was on the road by 10am. It was raining shortly after that, and at one point I was really frustrated about the rain. My directions turned out to be less than adequate, so in the future I plan to confirm any directions I acquire from the internet by comparing them to an actual map.

I found the trailhead and put on my raincoat. There were five other cars there. I signed in on the register. Five minutes later I was breathing heavy.

Ten minutes in I was trying to take a picture of a big rock. A boulder, cracked and mossy. I couldn’t get the trees behind it to look right. My camera isn’t fancy enough to color correct very well. I put my camera away and said, “It’s a good thing I’m not a photographer.”

Three groups of people were coming down, and I passed them and said “hello” as they went. I got to the top about an hour after I started. It was really eerie up there. There was no one else there. The wind was blowing the fog around. It was so quiet. It was almost alien. It would’ve been fun to hang out for a while but I was cold, wet, and hungry. I backtracked to a boarded up building and ate lunch on the porch.

Packing List For Hadley

Hadley Mountain is about an hour and a half north of Albany. The trail is less than two miles, the elevation gain is reportedly 1600 feet, but they list it as an easy hike. I do not remember it being easy the last time I did it.
