Friday: Bike to Pizza

After our run we call in an order for a 6 cut mexican pizza and mozzarella sticks with raspberry sauce. They say 40 minutes, so we shower and kill some time, and after 40 minutes have passed we bike there. We have lights on our bikes, and most of the route is on little side streets with no traffic. When we get there, we still have to wait for the pizza. This is the thing I don’t like about Spinners. They will say 40 minutes, you will get there in 50 and they will still make you wait for your order. But with dinner in hand, we bungee it to the back of The Watson and ride home. I daydream about a smart cargo bike with an insulated bag to keep the pizza warm.

At home we reheat the pizza. (This is starting to sound like not as much fun as it was.) It’s in the 40s and pizza gets cold very quickly. But the toaster oven does a nice job. We park our butts in front of Battlestar Galactica (Season 3, Episode 1) and enjoy our meal.

The mexican pizza is like a taco on a pizza. The crust from Spinners is thin in the center of the pizza, and if you’re not careful, all of your toppings will slide right off. The other end of the crust is thick and chewy. It’s a delicious mess.

Capital City Gastropub Part Two

Left to fend for myself for dinner, I decided to go to Capital City Gastropub again. I rode The Watson up the street. (By the way, the only thing to lock your bike to is a One Way sign on the corner. They could really use a bike rack.) I ordered the malbec and the pizza of the day. It was a moon shaped hearth bread called the Mezzaluna, and it was wonderful. Mussels and chorizo, braised field greens and goat cheese. These are some of my favorite things. They all combined to make something that was a bit spicy and a bit creamy. Paired with the malbec, I could not have imagined a better meal.
